e CD restitue quelques-unes des plus belles œuvres de Haendel méconnues, voire inconnues, écrites pour le chœur qui les chante ici – celui de la Chapelle royale britannique – et pour le lieu même où il les a enregistrées.
Pour la plupart, ces Anthems (pour mémoire, ce sont des cantiques à usage liturgique, parfois assez proches du motet, tandis que d’autres s’apparentent plutôt à la cantate ; l’élément principal étant qu’ils sont chantés dans la langue de tous les jours) n’ont pas été joués depuis leur première exécution au 18e siècle, du moins sous cette forme précise.. S’il n’est pas toujours aisé de dater les œuvres de Haendel, celles-ci se situent clairement à son époque anglaise, disons entre 1715 à 1730 ; des œuvres de maturité donc, souvent très profondes et recueillies.
    Une magnifique musique et une très belle qualité vocale du Choir of the Chapel Royal qui compte aujourd’hui dix sopranos-garçons et six voix d’hommes contre 12 garçons et 12 hommes à l’époque de Haendel.
