'opéra Dalibor (1868) de Bedrich Smetana sur un livret de Josef Wenzig, est basé sur des évènements historiques de 1497-98 au cours desquels un chevalier est condamné à mort après être venu en aide à une population opprimée. L'intrigue, qui rappelle le Fidelio de Beethoven (là aussi l'heroïne se travestit pour sauver son bien-aimé), permet au compositeur de transfigurer une histoire d'amour médiévale en un hymne éternel à la liberté. Cet enregistrement de 1979 met à l'honneur une excellente distribution entièrement tchèque, sous la direction jubilatoire de Vaclav Smetacek.
